Somewhere

June 14, 1944

 Dearest Mother & Dad,

I received your letter of May 21 today and I see you aren’t sure of where I am.  By the way, Jack Mullins is in the place you thought I was but I am way past that.  We get paid in Dutch money this month so that will be something to spend a little time on trying to figure out.

As to the Johnson you asked about; He is stationed in England and that wasn’t me on the wing of the airplane.  You must have been a little mixed up as to the location.  They don’t have my kind of ships at the place you saw.  We are past that.

Things have quieted down lately but for a while it was plenty hot and I don’t mean maybe.  I was really lucky.  I hope I don’t ever have that close a call again.  My radio has been wonderfully good company since I bought it.  We listen to the States (Frisco) every night.  Of course, it transcribed but it sounds mighty good.

Thelma has been writing very often lately and I certainly appreciate it.  She writes very interesting letters.  As to Velma’s beads, etc, I mailed it about six weeks ago so you should have it by now.  However, I didn’t send the Jap rifle because I didn’t have anything to pack it in but I will send Dad something when I can get a little time off to find something worthwhile.  I would rather have a Jap flag.  We have to trade with the ground forces and they are usually pretty high.  For instance, a Jap sword costs 300 pounds or a little over $1000.00.  I’ll do what I can.  Write often

                                                                                                 All my love,

                                                                                                 Son
