Somewhere

Dearest Mother, Dad, & Velma;

             Just received your letter of June 26 and I was very happy to hear from you.  I see you have been to Wichita again.  Did you have a good trip and visit?  You didn’t say.

             I was terribly sorry to hear about Fred Scudday.  He is the last one I figured would get it.  When you learn the details be sure to let me know all about it.

             Things have slowed up quite a bit lately.  We can’t find anything to fight.  Looks like they have run away.  But, maybe they can see the “writing on the wall”.  If they only knew it, they don’t have a chance.

             This afternoon I am going deep-sea fishing which should be lots of fun and, too, it helps to pass the time away.  I am not on schedule to fly today and, believe me, time is really heavy on our hands.  Our group has a beautiful boat just right for fishing so we will be safe enough.  The ocean is beautiful here and the beach is ideal.  It would be a wonderful place to visit in peace times.

             I still haven’t received my chain or stationery but I haven’t given up hope yet.  They will turn up sometime, I am sure.

             My time for leave again comes up in about 4 weeks which will make five times for me in Sydney.  Think I know the place pretty well by now.  It is beautiful there and it is civilization.  Very similar to Dallas but larger.

             ‘Bye for now and don’t worry.  I am O.K.

                                                                                                 All my love,

                                                                                                 Son
