Dearest Thelma & Walt,
Just a short note to let you know I still think about you and that I am very much O.K.
It seems that at last they are starting to send some of us boys home. In my old squadron most of the fellows I came over with will soon be on their way. And I think that is three to four months I will be on my way.
Looks like the blooming Navy is knocking hell out of everything, so we shouldn’t have too much of a job from here on out.
We had a big rumor here yesterday that Germany surrendered but guess it must have been false. I am sure that end will be over fairly soon. We still have a good distance to go yet, but I am sure we can do it easily. The situation really changed rapidly over here. I’ll tell you about it some day.
My promotion should come thru in about two or three weeks. It bounced the first time because they didn’t have it made out correctly.
By the way, don’t send me any canned meat or food for Xmas! If you do, I’ll shoot you when I get home. If you had eaten as much of that junk as I have, you would know how I feel. Don’t send records because they are too hard to send. A nice photo of you, Walt & the baby would be very nice. You see, now we can get everything here. It is not like it used to be. We probably can get more here than you can. For my part, get Velma and Mother something nice that they need. That will make me very happy.
Give the Janeses (sp?) and all the other people my regards. If you see Roscoe Blankenship tell him I said hello.
Write soon!
Love,
Son
