New Guinea

 Dearest Mother, Dad, & Velma;

             Just received your letter of Sept. 12 tonight and was glad to hear from you.  You hadn’t heard from me in about a week, but I am sure you have been hearing regular lately.

             We have quit flying down here and are waiting to join the other boys up the line.  The weather has been bad as I am sure we would have been up there already.  The mail situation won’t be as good up there as it is here because this is the place the ships leave and come.  The mail service is just about perfect here, but it won’t be later on.  I am sure I have received all you letters to date.  So don’t worry about that.

             Mom, the reason I don’t answer your questions sometimes is because I can’t.  Please remember that.  Especially as to the numbers you have been giving me, that won’t work at all.  I suggest you ask Chase if you know how to get in touch with him.

             Dad, I have been thinking along time about you and I going in business together after the war.  Mom mentioned it the other day so we might as well discuss it.  If I can make money for I.H.C. I can surely make it for myself.  And if you and I use our talents together I think we can cash in on it.  What do you think?  What kind or type of business do you have in mind?  Why don’t you scout around and see what is cooking in the business world.  I think I would like the oil business like Rig Edwards had.  What do you think?  I should have a pretty good ‘nest egg’ when this war is over.  Write me, Dad, and tell me what you think.

             Everything is fine at the present so will stop and hit the sack.

                                                                                                 All my love,

                                                                                                 Son
