Dutch East Indies

 Dearest Mother, Dad, & Velma;

             After going several days without any letters, I finally hit the jackpot with five from you and one from Jack Armstrong.  I am more or less used to that, tho, because that is the way it has been every since I have been overseas!

             We are still going on very long missions but other than that nothing much is going on.  I guess you have heard the news from over here and you are probably wondering where I am. I know how you feel.  But I am sure we will be O.K.  Jack Mullins is in the thick of it and I hope he goes thru O.K.  The news so far sounds as if everything is going according to plan.  Keep a check on my APO.

             As far as anything interesting to tell you, I know nothing.  This place is extremely dull and I will be very glad to move up.

             How is everything at home?  Tell everyone hello for me and I hope I will be on my way in about three months.  My captaincy has not come thru yet.  Our adjutant is a new fellow and he sent it in wrong twice.  Can you imagine?  I am losing $50.00 a month ‘til it comes thru.

             ‘Bye for now and keep writing.

                                                                                                 All my love,

                                                                                                 Son

 P.S.  Will send some pictures of my ship & myself in a few days.
