Dear Dad
Mom told me you enjoyed my letter very much. I was glad to hear you did but I also thought you might answer it. Sure would like to hear from you.
I am sure by now you all have received my letter telling you about my engagement to Barbara. Well, Dad, I feel like I have found one girl who thinks more of me than she does herself, or at least as much. That is more than I can say for the rest of them. I could have waited before popping the question but this way, I am sure, more or less of having something when I get back. She is a very nice girl and also has good common sense. She has a job with the Ordnance Dept. in Springfield and makes her own spending money which I admire very much. Her family appears to have had a very good living at one time but they now seem to be very similar to our family. Her Dad is some kind of manager for Buxton pocketbook, etc.
They are damn Yankees but they are excellent people. Barbara is a very pretty girl. She weighs about 105 lbs. And is about 5’2”. She smokes some but so do 99% of the rest and if that’s the worst, it’s not so bad.
If she does have the chance to visit you all before I get back I want you to show her a very very good time and see that she enjoys herself. I know you will. I know you will be crazy about her.
Well, I guess that explains all that pretty well.
I am sure you can tell where all our action is taking place by the News reports. It has been good news, too. This business is very tough and so is the country. It isn’t worth a damn for anything. You should see the country and you would really appreciate the States. That goes for Australia, also.
Well, Dad, don’t work too hard and write me when you can. Tell me what you think about all I told you. Don’t worry about me because I am O.K.. I will be plenty glad to get back. Say hello to all my friends and don’t forget to write.
Love,
Son
