 Dearest Mother & Dad,

I hope you will please excuse the paper but at present I haven’t received your package.  I borrowed this from an Aussie friend of mine.

Last night I did very well at getting my mail.  I got six letters and I really enjoyed them.  I got three from you and three from Barbara.  Also I got seven papers day before yesterday.  They are the only ones I have received since I left the States.  Barbara sent me a snap shot of herself and it is really cute.  I think she is mighty sweet.  I haven’t heard from Mary in over a month.  Besides that deal is all washed up as far as I am concerned.  Barbara said she wanted to visit you about Nov. 1 and that she would write you about it.  I surely hope she does visit you because I know you will like her very much.  As far as her calling me Bill, everyone either calls me Bill or Carter.  Very few people know my name is Otto.  Don’t think anything about it.  I don’t mind.

The Foy boy told you just about everything and he seems to have the story very true. It is like he says.  I suggest you get in touch with him and he can tell you the whole story.  He should be able to tell you plenty.  Leighton had the same trouble as Billy Gibbs.  I think you know what I mean.  I have been off the last few days resting and taking it easy, but I start the grind in the morning.  When you are eating supper and getting ready to go to bed is about the time we are our busiest over here.

I sent home some more money yesterday. You will have it by the time you get this, I guess.  Please put it up for me.  Oh yes, tell me how much I have now.

‘Bye for now and write often.

                                                                                                 Love,

                                                                                                 Son
