 Dearest Mother and Dad,

I am really taking life easy now since we don’t have anything to do.  But in a few weeks we will be somewhat busier.  We go around quite a bit but there is not much doing.  I am living with Lytle, Hnatio, Parsons, and Chase and the place is somewhat similar to the conditions when I first became a cadet but we don’t have quite as much.  I sleep quite late and play softball in the afternoon to keep in shape.  Capt. Carpenter has been taking us around quite a bit and I enjoy that.

I have received quite a bit of mail since I have been here and it really does help.  I have received ten letters from Barbara already; only two from Mary.  Also only one from you.  I was quite surprised at that.  What is the matter?  I think air mail or V-mail is much faster so why not try that?

Mom, I am getting along very good so don’t worry about me.  Here’s hoping it won’t be too long before I get to return.  Please write soon and tell me the news.

                                                                                               Your loving son,

                                                                                                 Otto Jr.
