New Guinea

 Dearest Mother & Dad,

I haven’t written the past few days because I have been in the hospital with Dengue fever.  I really did feel bad, too.  I had 104 once but it usually ran around 101.  They don’t seem to know the cure for Dengue yet so they just let you ride it out.  I got out this morning but I am still pretty weak.  Too weak to fly and next week I am supposed to go on leave again.  So by the time I get back from leave I should be in first class shape again.

I got a Christmas card from Mrs. Wilkinson yesterday so be sure to tell them I appreciated it very much.

I don’t believe I have ever seen a place as dull as this is.  I get so disgusted I hardly know what to do.  It is very hot during the day but the nights are pretty nice.  Well, Mom, I believe this is one time you beat Dad guessing.  You were certainly right in your last letter.

I got a nice long letter from Katherine.  It was very interesting and she told me all about Kay.  Evidently she is doing fine in school.  Tell Thelma to write more often.

                                                                                                 All my love,

                                                                                                 Son
