New Guinea

 Dearest Mother, Dad, & Velma,

Here I am again with just about nothing to write about.  We are still about the same.  Can’t seem to find too many Nips even tho we look very hard.  Our main kick here is our food and it is really bad. French toast in the morning and bully beef for dinner and supper.  After flying our heart out we come back to stuff like that.  We really get disgusted.

Also our mail situation is terrible.  We haven’t had any mail in a week.  You can imagine how gripy we get under such conditions.

Hnatio has a good case of Dengue fever and will be out for ten days or so.  Chase and Lytle haven’t come back from Sydney yet but they will be here in a day or so.  It is quite a long trip down there.

My ship is in very good condition and I am certainly proud of it.  My crew chief is from Holland, Michigan.  He works hard for me and always tries very hard to please me.  I think lots of him.

My tent is full now listening to my short-wave radio. It is worth all I paid for it to us.

I want to thank you again for the house shoes and cigars.  They were perfect.

Well, Mom, please excuse the rambling, but there is nothing I can write about.  I am still in very good health and am getting along fine.  Please don’t worry any more than you can help and pray that I can get home sometime soon.

                                                                                                 Lots of love,

                                                                                                 Son
