New Guinea

  Dearest Mother & Dad,

At last, I have a morning off and I am really taking it easy.  I have been getting up before daylight for so long that I woke up and it was very hard to go back to sleep.

I ran into a kid from home here at our new strip.  His name is Weatherby. Mundell Weatherby’s brother.  He is a little younger than I.  He used to run around with L.A. Ritter & Billy Mitchell at home.  I think he is Bob Weatherby’s nephew.  He saw Jack Faver & he told him about me being here.  He also saw my airplane.  Surely was glad to see someone from home.  I am getting ready to go on leave again with Lytle & Chase.  We plan on a huge time.  This should be our last leave before we go home if we are lucky.

You asked about Allen.  Yep, he is till around and is crazy as ever.  I fly with he, Lytle, Hnatio & Fleischer every day.  My flight has eighteen victories so far.  We are the top ranking.  I hope you have read about our last fight by now.  It was a corker.  Lots of thrills & chills.

Mom, I don’t know much more to write to you other than I am fine and getting along swell.  Don’t worry about me ‘cause I am O.K.  Keep writing as you always have & I’ll be as happy as I can ‘til I get home.

                                                                                                  All my love,

                                                                                                  Son

P.S.  I wrote Mr. Walker yesterday.

P.P.S  Jack Faver is still close by.
