New Guinea

 Dearest Mother & Dad,

I wish you could see our tent now.  It is really torn up and dirty.  We are packing up again and you can imagine what that means.  They have cut down on our baggage and we are really living out of our handbag.

Guess who I saw today!  Dr. Peters!  He heard I was here and he looked me up.  Boy, was I glad to see him.  It has been raining all morning he walked in my tent & I hardly knew him.  He has a big moustache and had his trench helmet on.  He is really a big man.  He visited me a couple hours and I am going over to see him tonight.  I am certainly glad to see him.  We had a big bull session.

I wish I could tell you where I will be soon but you should be able to guess pretty close because of the news from over here.  It should be pretty hot up there and I imagine it will be.

I am getting along fine and so is everyone else.  Lytle got his captaincy today and he is thrilled to pieces, and I don’t blame him a bit.  Hope I get mine some day but it will be a long time, I imagine.

I have received lot of mail lately but it was waiting for me while on leave.

Surely will be glad to get settled.  I have moved three times in six months so you can see how busy we are.  Also we are about the oldest group of pilots over here and considered one of the best.  Anyway, we are ready to have at least a leave home.  Wouldn’t that be nice?

Well, Mom, please keep on writing and tell me all the news.  Tell everyone hello and God Bless you all.

                                                                                                 All my love,

                                                                                                 Son

P.S.  I sent a box of clothes home today!  Watch for them!
