Dear Mom & Dad,
Well, it looks like I am beginning to get a few letters from home. However, I know it is the distance and not the writing. I know you are writing. I am just now getting your old ones. I was very surprised to hear of B.B.’s death. I saw him just before I left Westover. I haven’t much to say because I don’t know the particulars. I am sure it was a terrible shock to his family. I am glad you sent the flowers for me.
I was also surprised at Charles Ray’s death. Seems like when it rains it pours. Well, we have no control on things like that so there’s nothing much we can do except pray.
Mom please don’t let yourself worry because I think you know that I want to com back even more than you want me to. I’ll be as careful as I can. The quicker the job is done the quicker I get home. And that’s where I want to be.
I am very well and lazy and hope we can knock Hell out of those Japs!
All my love,
Son
