Somewhere

 Dearest Mother, Dad, & Velma;

             Mom!  Where did you get that hat?  Just got the pictures you made at Thelma & Walt’s. Please, for my sake, throw that hat away and if you need it, use my money to get yourself another one.  Oh me, I can hardly get over it.  For the love of Pete, who sold it to you?  If I were Dad, I would run you out of the house until you got rid of that hat!

             Thelma’s & Walt’s baby surely looks cute but she looks spoiled.  Is she?  From the picture, Sarah Lee looks like both her parents.  Do you think so?

             Everything is about the same here.  Still pretty slow but I think we will be out of here pretty soon.  Too quiet!  The big boys aren’t satisfied unless we are bombed every night.  Until recently they have been getting their wish, too.  Oh well, sometimes I think it does us good.  Gives one a different outlook on the whole situation.

             There’s not much to report from here tonight.  We aren’t very busy lately and we have a lot of time on our hands and this island is so small there is nothing to do but read books and sleep.  Gives us a lot of time to think about home, too.  And that makes us kinda blue.

             Got a letter from Jack Armstrong tonight which was very interesting.  Same ol’ Jack.  The best guy in the world.

             Well, Mom, all my love to you & Dad.  Take care of yourselves and write often.

                                                                                                 Your loving son,

                                                                                                 Otto Jr.
