New Guinea

 Dearest Mother, & Dad, & Velma;

             Received two letters from you last night – dated 8th & 9th.  I was rather amazed at the contents but I am sure I understand.

             About sending me something for Xmas, I would rather have a nice picture of you and Dad.  As for anything else, I can get it all here.  And as for Thelma and her Vienna sausages – well.  I wonder if she knows what I have been eating for 16 months.  Don’t send me anything to eat.  Also don’t send any records because we can get them here from ‘Special Services’ division.

             Mom, I have a new APO now.  I will be there by the time you get this.  APO 704.  We won’t stay here as long as we figured but that is O.K.  I like it better when we are in the midst of everything.  Where we are now is too quiet and time drags very much.  Besides it won’t be too rough and good experience for the new boys.

             I was glad to hear that Charles and Wanda have a little daughter.  I am sure everyone is tickled “pink”.  I wonder what Dot Cooke thinks.  Remember – she always was helping me ‘out’ with Wanda.  You might phone Wanda and give her my congratulations.  I hope she is getting along fine.

             (Every time I think about those Vienna sausages I nearly burn-up).

             Well, it looks like Billy Wilkinson is going to miss this war if he doesn’t hurry up and get in.  However, he has quite a family and I can imagine his feelings.

             I can’t imagine why you haven’t received the package I sent from Australia.  You should have it by now.  I hope you like it.

             Mom, be sure and use my new APO 704.  Harry Whitten should be at the same place.  I heard they were going to be there. Surely hope to see him.  Tell the Nolan Co. News Reporter – I.H.C. and anyone else about my new APO.

             I wonder what you think of the news from over here.  Looks like the Navy is not going to leave us anything.

 Write soon and be good!

                                                                                                 All my love,

                                                                                                 Son
