Dearest Mother, Dad, & Velma;
How are you folks today? I hope you haven’t had the rains that we have had. Believe me, it has really poured down the last two days.
I am enclosing a prescription for a pair of glasses that I want you to get John Majors to have made up for me. All the information is on the slip. Have John to pack them exceptionally well because they will have to travel around quite a bit before I will get them. However, if it takes too long to get them, don’t bother with it, as I intend to be on my way home around Xmas or January. I had one pair made in Sydney but as yet, I haven’t received them. I should get them most any day. My vision is still good but my eyes are inflamed which is caused by sun glare from flying over the ocean.
How do you like the war situation down here? As yet, we are not in the ‘push’ but it shouldn’t be long now. I think we will have a pretty rough time for awhile as it looks like they are really going to scrap from here on. As I have said, I am ready to go home just anytime they will let me while I am still in one piece.
Everything is O.K. here. Very slow and monotonous and the weather is mostly poor, too. My promotion still has not come thru and I am very disgusted with that. See, I am not too happy today.
Don’t worry about me and pray that the next few months pass very quickly so I’ll get home soon.
All my love, Son
