 Dearest Mother and Dad,

I just got back from my day off and I really had the best time I have had since I was home.  I spent my time in Springfield. I was a guest in the Fuller home and, believe me, they treated me like a King. They are wonderful people. Of course, I was going with their daughter but, besides that, they were very nice to me.  They went out of their way to make me feel at home.  They waited on me from head to foot. They are not wealthy but are very well financially.  Their address is – Mr. And Mrs. Fuller, 72 Westminster St., Springfield, Mass.  Mr. Fuller works for the Buxton Purse Co. and is a swell man.  The daughter that I went with is named Barbara. I think I told you about her in my last letter.  She is a very attractive girl and has lots of sense.  (one of the few.) She reminds me too much of Mary.  Don’t get the wrong idea, tho, Mary is the one still but if something comes up, I will have one to fall back on.  Barbara works for the Ordnance Division of the Army in Springfield. She is a civilian worker. She doesn’t have to work but she wants to be busy and be doing something for the War effort.  I don’t blame anyone for that, do you?

I saw Wayne Hagar yesterday at Westover.  I was very glad to see him but I think he was even more glad to see me.  I just saw him for a short while but that was better than nothing.  He is in the 321st Fighter Sqd.  I used to be in the 320th, remember?

We are very busy here.  We are expecting the call just anytime.  When or where no one knows.  I have tried to call you for the last week and ask you about coming up but the telephone has so much delay that I can’t get in touch with you.  What do you think about coming up?  I will try again tonight.  We are night flying tonight but that won’t make any difference to me.  Mr. And Mrs. Fuller suggested that you stay at their house in Springfield if this Sqd. Is brought back to Westover before we shove off.  How do you like that?

I haven’t heard from Mary in the last few days but I am sure I will tomorrow.  She seems to be just now getting the way I wanted her last year.  I guess that would happen now.

I am getting the paper o.k. but I wish you would write more often.  I think you must be a little peeved at me for not writing more often.  But MOM after flying a person gets is usually tired you can’t think straight, much less write.  It is very hard to sit down and write after flying 5 or 6 hours each day.  You think I don’t love you just because I don’t write every day.  I wish you knew the situation.

Well, Mom, I don’t know much to tell you except that I am still well and feeling fine.  My ear hasn’t bothered me any.  The Doc has kept me under his eye all the time and he says everything is back to normal once again.  Don’t worry about me because if anything happens to me you will be notified.  As long as you don’t hear from me or if I am not complaining you know I am in top shape.

Guess I have about run out of soap now and I had better finish this very lengthy letter.  Aren’t you proud of me for writing such a long letter.  I didn’t know I could do it.

‘Bye for now and please write soon.

                                                                                    I love you,

                                                                                     Son

P.S.

Say, Mom, where is Jim?  I haven’t heard from him in quite awhile.  Be sure and tell me all the news.
