October 23, 1943

 Dearest Mother and Dad,

I just received your letter of Oct. 3rd, and was very glad to get it.  I want to thank you for all the clippings.  I was very interested in one of the clippings.  It was the large picture of which you asked me about.  Yes, Mother, I have been there late and it looks very natural.  I have seen it nearly every day.

As you say, we have been every busy over here and we don’t have much time to settle down and do very much thinking.  Everything seems to be going O.K. for us over here and I hope they continue to do so.  We have been very lucky and we know it.  Have you heard of Lytle’s victories yet?  His wife should know all about it by now.  You might ask her if you don’t know.

Mom, you keep asking about Leighton.  We had the same trouble as Wayne Hagar had but in a different kind of way, that is as plain as I can tell you.

My ship is still running good and I am O.K.  The past few days I have had a little indigestion but I think that is only natural.  Sometimes the food is not so good.  But, we did have chicken and ice cream the other night.

Mom, I am getting the paper a little now so you won’t have to send them in an envelope anymore.  Thanks a lot, tho.

‘Bye for now and write soon,

                                                                                                 Love, Son.
