Dearest Mother and Dad and Velma,

I guess I am getting to be very ease at letter writing but as per usual I have been pretty busy.  You should be learning about some of it.  And also my job takes up a lot of my time when I am not flying.  Dad was right in what he figured out about us and the APO number. I don’t know where it will take place.

             (A few hours later)

Well, here I am again.  I hope I get to finish this before I am disturbed again.  As I was saying, we are pretty busy and I am sure you can appreciate our efforts over here.  Maybe it won’t be too long before everything will be where we can be home.  Altho, we have a mighty big job to do.  We are hitting them hard and with all we got and it is really making a difference.  I hope you have heard how well we have been doing to date.  I hope it keeps on being as good.

I hope I can get some more pictures to send you and I’ll have them made of me so you can see exactly how I look when I am working.  My ship is certainly running good now and I wouldn’t take anything for it. It acts darn near human.  I think we have the best plane that is built today.  Nothing can touch us so far.

I am in good shape physically but I don’t like the weather.  It gets too hot & rains too much over here. I have lost weight but it is on account of the heat.  However, I am feeling good.

Lytle, Chase and I are supposed to go on leave next week but there is no telling when we will go.  The Army way of messing things up applies to that as well as a lot of other things.  Maybe we will get down south before or about Christmas.  At least here’s hoping.

I received the Nolan County News today of Sept. 9, and, of course, I was very glad to get it.  I will read every word before I throw it away.  Mom, you said something about Life magazine two fellows in my tent have subscription to that and to Readers’ Digest.  We also have access to a lot of other magazines thru the Red Cross and the American Legion.  By the way, Mom, if you all make contributions, make them to the Red Cross.  They are doing wonders over here and are worth more than they will ever get.  They are doing a wonderful job over here and I am sorry I never contributed more to them.  Please remember!  They also meet our ships after every flight with cold punch and cookies and a very happy and welcome smile and treat us like we were there own boys.  Believe me, that is really appreciated over here!

We are all very anxious to get back to the States but we realize we have a long time to go yet.  I hope too much hasn’t changed at home and that it will be like it used to be before the war.

I guess you are getting ready for Barbara’s visit.  Gosh, how I wish I were there for it.  I know you will be crazy to see her and I feel sure she will make a hit.  She certainly did with me!

I am getting sleepy – please excuse me.  Write soon and take care of yourselves.

                                                                                                 Love,

                                                                                                 Son
