New Guinea

 Dearest Mother & Dad,

Hello, and how is every thing at home?  I hope this finds you in good health and in good spirits.

I am still getting along swell and impatiently waiting for all this mess to get over.  We are in our tents again today resting and taking life very easy for a change.  We have been going at a fast clip so they decided to let us relax for a day or so.  We take advantage or it, too.

Had visitors last night and had to hit “ye ol’ foxhole” but it wasn’t bad.  It just keeps the morale up believe it or not.  Actually, that is true.  It reminds the boys on the ground that there really is a war going on.

We have a good softball league going and of course, I am in the big middle of it.  We play the enlisted men and have lots of fun, besides it keeps us in good physical shape and makes us eat the bully beef.

I should be going on leave in a couple of weeks but I am not sure the date.  Nevertheless, I will write you all the time I am down there.  I will look again for something to send home.  I think Lytle will go with me.  We aren’t for sure as yet.

I think I told you about the letter I received from Dorothy concerning the Harvester Co.  It was very good and I may send it to you after I think about the contents more closely.  It sounded very good.

We have lots of activity at my base now.  “Red” Reynolds of the I.H.C. is right next door to me, but as yet I haven’t seen him.  He seems to be quite busy right now.  Write soon, Mom.

                                                                                                 Love, Son
